At this time our internships are unpaid, and because of this, we will never ask you to put us ahead of your school/work/recreation/relaxation time and will work with you on your schedule. We can also work with you to leverage resources available at your school.
Working with Queers For Justice
Queers for Justice looks to the help of the community through volunteer and internship programs. Volunteers and Interns collaboratively work within groups alongside our Prisoner Advisory Team to bring empower incarcerated community members' voices. The Program has a level of independence and is able to self-manage research or outreach projects, and be committed to social justice that includes an anti-racist approach to community organizing as a tool and strategy for systemic transformation.
Current Opportunities: Spring 2023
Applicants can expect to be contacted and interviewed within 10 business days of applying (likely sooner), and roles will be filled on a rolling basis. The Queers for Justice Committee is seeking a maximum of 12 interns/volunteers to work side by side with the Prisoner Advisory Team advocating for the advancement of the Prisoner Agenda. Those selected will work with the prisoner advisory team to ensure that their voices are heard in campaign meetings, in legislators’ offices, and in the community. Each person will be paired up with a legislative initiative from the Prisoner Agenda and work to pass this bill in the New York State 2023 Legislative Session along with incarcerated community members.
In this role, you will:
Build a community with incarcerated community members
Network with organizations and organizers across the state
Advocate for systems change
Gain a basic understanding of Intersectional Abolition
Advocate for policy change with an abolitionist lens
Read and understand New York State policy
Understand New York State government legislative process
Requirements:
A commitment of 6-8 hours per week
Proficient in Slack, Google Drive
Attend weekly (virtual) group meetings

Qomunidad is a space for our Queer Latine folx to come together, build community, and find resources and connections. We are seeking one intern to assist with administrative tasks related to running this program and to help shape the space as we re-launch in 2023.
The Role:
Administrative tasks, including note taking and email list maintenance
Drafting communications, including social media and email blasts
Collaborating with communications team to keep graphics and descriptions on our website, social media, and emails up-to-date
Requirements:
A commitment of 5-8 hours per week
Proficient in Slack, Google Drive
Attend monthly public meetings in Newburgh (1/month)
Attend monthly planning meetings in Newburgh (1/month)
Fluency in Spanish preferred, but not required
